David Isom - Sea Songs

David Isom ( aka Captain 'Dave) started playing guitar aged 15 soon after returning from a couple of years in Africa. His childhood friend and neighbour Graham Reid ('Moonie')knew three chords and taught him. 'Ice & Moonie' played at such dazzling venues at 'Fred’s Joint' a coffee lounge convened Sunday nights in a kindergarten after church at North Balwyn Methodist. At the 'Bottle of Wine' a former butchers shop-come folkie coffee lounge in Torquay the boys met guitar whizz John ('Jack') Malcolm and were soon playing in the streets at Lorne or harmonising in the public toilet block at the local Camping Ground and living out of Dave’s 1934 Austin Seven.

Dave joined the early 'Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band 'in 1970 but his real love was Australian bush music. At Latrobe University Dave founded the 'Original Bushwackers and Bullockies Bush Band'( later shortened to 'The Bushwackers ') in 1971, touring Australia, NZ, then Europe in 1974 , playing extensively and working seriously at destroying their livers.

Later he toured widely with the Victorian Arts Council, co-founding the 'Sundowners' with former 'Mulga Bills Bicycle Band' member Peter Mc Donald where they performed extensively in school shows and in the ' All Australian Pub Show'. He then performed solo throughout Australia including many tours with various state Arts Councils particularly in Queensland.

Dave recorded with the Bushwackers, Sundowners where their 'Colonial Classics' became a 'Gold' Album and has recorded four solo albums prior to 'Best of....Down to the Sea'.

Between 2013 to 2016 Dave fulfilled a boyhood dream of sailing around the world in his yacht 'Eliana' and now spends much time restoring his vintage Austin Seven motor cars, keeping them going or playing the fiddle.
